The island’s Orthodox cathedral is in the northern part of the Old Town and stands at the top of a flight of steps. It dates back to 1577, but was not dedicated as cathedral until 1841. Although inside it is rather gloomy, the high roof and three aisles make it quite impressive. There is the usual array of icons, the most notable of which is one of St. George.
