Kalámi is one of Corfu’s gems. Outside busy periods you can still appreciate the beauty and peace that inspired writer Lawrence Durrell when lived here in the 1930s with his wife. If you are seeking inspiration yourself then it is best to visit the place out of peak season; spring in particular, with its wild flowers, is a perfect time.
The village lies on the northeast coast, surrounded by quiet bays and with the massif of Mount Pantokrátor as a backdrop.
The south side of the bay is an excellent place to dine or stay. Around the bay, villas and tavernas blend into orange and lemon groves, olive trees and cypresses. In summer the harbour is busy with day visitors and the usual array of watersports is available. Boats can be rented and the beach is amazing for swimming.
Don’t visit Kalámi without walking at least a little way along the coast to the south to appreciate the natural beauty of this part of the island.
