The Venetians began work on the New Fortress (Néo Froúrio) in 1576, just 30 years after the Old Fortress was built, so the defence of Corfu Town was obviously important to them. These days there is not a lot to see inside the walls, although there are occasional exhibitions and concerts. The best reason for visiting is for the magnificent views across towards Greek mainland, Albania, and over the Old Port below.
